The Farm – 160 dairy goats for Picodon AOP cheese, beehives and suckler cows

Just a stone's throw from the campsite, we raise 160 Alpine and Saanen dairy goats. They give their milk morning and evening during milking.

This milk is then sold to the AGRIAL cooperative in Crest to make Picodon AOP, a goat cheese typical of our region.

La chèvrerie et le laitier

From spring to autumn, our goats graze in the woods and meadows. Our farm covers 120 hectares: 60 hectares of grazed woodland and 60 hectares of cultivated land to feed the animals and ensure our food self-sufficiency.

We grow barley, used for feed, and straw for bedding. We also grow alfalfa, clover, and meadows, which we mow to produce fodder.

But the farm isn't just about goats. We also have about fifty beehives used for pollinating crops or producing honey from any flower you can enjoy at the campsite.

But also a small herd of suckler cows and donkeys maintain the pastures.

The goat is a fairly small, agile, very curious animal. The males are called goats and the young ones are kids or chevrettes. On our farm we have a herd of around 150 dairy goats, 40 kids and 10 goats. The entire milk production, around 135,000 liters per year, is sold to the AGRIAL cooperative in Crest (Soignon, Grand Fermage, etc.) to be transformed into Picodon AOP.

Bees are pollinating insects that live in groups called colonies or swarms. Each colony has its own social structure, consisting of a queen, thousands of workers and a few males. The queen plays a crucial role in the reproduction and survival of the colony.
