🚶 Hikes 🏕️
Here are some hikes starting and ending at our campsite. All these routes are available by following the link below the map and on the Visiorando website and app, downloadable here:
🟢 Visit to Bourdeaux and La Viale 🟢
Here is a 7 km route, with an elevation gain of 180 meters. Easily accessible, it takes about 2.5 hours to walk. This route will take you to the village of Bourdeaux, the nearest town, with about 650 inhabitants and offering many shops: mini-market, bakery, butcher, post office, as well as a market on Thursday mornings.
The route will take you to the old village and the ruins of the two castles overlooking Bourdeaux. From there, you'll enjoy a view of the Roubion Valley and the Bourdeaux region. To the north, you'll see the Mornans Tower, a three-tiered cylindrical keep. To the east, towards the Col de la Chaudière pass, is the Bézaudun-sur-Bîne Tower, dominating its bare hill. Finally, to the south, the Couspeau mountain range stretches to the peaks of Angèle (1,606 m) and Miélandre (1,451 m).
🟢 Short Loop - Mornans and the Rastel 🟢
This 7 km circuit, with an elevation gain of 240 meters, is also easily accessible and takes approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes. It will take you to the small village of Mornans, a commune of 80 inhabitants. The housing is very dispersed; the village consists of only a town hall, a former Protestant church (now deconsecrated), and a few houses.
The trail begins on the track connecting the La Tour district, where the campsite is located, to the Village district. This track, impassable by car, is marked as dangerous to prevent vehicles from venturing onto it. In the village, you will discover, to the north, the southern foothills of the Saoû Forest and, to the south, the Mornans Tower. The return route crosses agricultural fields before reaching the paved road leading to the Rastel Pass and the hamlets of the same name, part of the municipality of Bourdeaux. You will finish by walking alongside the fields to return to the campsite.
🔵 Medium loop - Serre de la Saint Jean 🔵
This 9 km loop, with an elevation gain of 350 meters, is of intermediate difficulty and takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes.
Extended version of the previous route, you will cross the village of Mornans, then the path will lead you to the Serre de la Saint Jean, offering a panoramic view of the Saoû Forest, Mornans, and the surrounding area, stretching to the Rhône Valley and the Ardèche mountains. You might even spot our beehives, located a few steps from the Serre, from where our bees set out to forage on the surrounding wildflowers. Please be careful not to get too close, especially in hot weather, to avoid being stung. The return to the campsite will be via the hamlet of Rastel.
🔴 Grand Loop - Serre Antoine 🔴
This 12 km hike, with an elevation gain of 460 meters, is more difficult and will take approximately 5 hours to complete the loop.
This is the longer version of the two previous routes, taking you to Serre Antoine and its 823-meter altitude. You will cross the village of Mornans on the way there and the hamlet of Rastel on the way back. Please note that a ford across the Eyzarette River can make the route impassable after heavy rain.
⚫ Large Loop – Bourdeaux, Saint-André and Bois de Vaches ⚫
This last circuit, 17 km long with 480 meters of elevation gain, is difficult and takes approximately 6 hours and 30 minutes.
It begins on the outskirts of Bourdeaux, then climbs into the hills, notably around Poët-Célard and Château Saint-André. This privately owned castle, built in 1560 and listed as a historical monument in 2003, is a site linked to the Huguenots who welcomed Calvin in 1561. You will then pass through Bois de Vache, a former place of worship in Le Désert, before reaching the Col de Boutière (654 m). The route then climbs to Serre de Bois Vieux (754 m) before descending back to Bourdeaux via the town of Comps. The return journey takes you past the castle ruins and through the medieval village.
